What's in a name?

According to our research, the name Caedmon means "Wise Warrior".

Besides the band from a few years back - Caedmon's Call - the name Caedmon is most commonly in reference to a 7th Century hymn writer. He is the earliest English poet whose name is known.

According to the story, he was a heardsman at Whitby Abbey in England who didn't know the first thing about song writing but learned to compose one night in the course of a dream that he felt was inspired by God. He went on to become a monk and inspirational poet.

By his songs and poems the minds of many were often encouraged to not be seduced by the things of this world, but to aspire to heaven.

His only known surviving work is C├Ždmon's Hymn, the nine-line praise poem in honor of God which he credited to his initial dream:

Caedmon's Hymn
Now let me praise the keeper of Heaven's kingdom,
the might of the Creator, and his thought,
the work of the Father of glory, how each of wonders
the Eternal Lord established in the beginning.
He first created for the sons of men
Heaven as a roof, the holy Creator,
then Middle-earth the keeper of mankind,
the Eternal Lord, afterwards made,
the earth for men, the Almighty Lord.

Also cool is that Kristian (as well as some of my other family members and friends) have visited Caedmon's grave (pictured above) at Whitby Abbey during trips to England.

Bryant is Kristian's middle name, and one that I love.

For Valentine's Day Kristian gave me a ticket to a Coffee and Tea Festival- So fun! He knows me well. He had to work that day so Caed and I headed down for some caffeinated fun.

We attended a chocolate tasting and a talk on how to throw a proper afternoon tea party. I really want to have a tea party now. Anyone want to join me?
