American Sex Exploitation, His Toy Store, Homemade Christmas

At our Love146 task force meeting the other night we learned how to better recognize the signs of human trafficking, specifically locally. The prevalence of this issue domestically is pretty astonishing.
For more information (and to report suspicious situations) you can call the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-3737-8888, or visit their website.

Here's a video we watched put out by GEMS which describes the potential journey of an NYC sexually exploited teen.

This morning our church participated in His Toy Store sites across the city. This is a project we take part in annually that allows parents who aren't able to buy Christmas presents for their kids to come and "shop" for gifts free of charge.
A great component of this day is that we partner with a local church in the area we set up (our group was is the Bronx today). The church members volunteer as well and it's an awesome opportunity for the local neighbors to be served by a church in their area and recognize that the blessings are given in the name of Christ. Many neighbors have subsequently ended up coming to the churches that partner with His Toy Store.

Our little abode is looking more and more like Christmas, and I love it!

tiny little tree adornments made from vellum, twine and brads with words about who/ what Jesus is to us...

I love Pottery Barn's wire Christmas card holder that they've sold the last couple years. But it's expensive and very impractical for us.
Here's my (very) homemade version made from a few hangers, pliers, and twine.
I lacked the time, patience, and skill to make anything similar to theirs, but it does the job.

Have a few other little homemade projects going on that I'll post another day.

It's snowy and dark outside... the perfect evening for staying warm and cozy at home!
