Advertised in places like Craigslist, sex with children is a thriving part of the NYC sex trade.
New York is widely acknowledged to be a leading entry, transit and destination point for trafficking victims.
Every year, kids as young as 12 are sexually exploited by pimps, and they face a system ill-equipped to provide the services needed to help them reclaim their young lives. This disproportionately affects African-American girls, as well as gay and transgender youth.
Today you can use your voice to HELP and HEAL.
The Safe Harbor Act has finally passed in both the NYS Senate and Assembly. Now, it is critical that we urge Governor Paterson to sign this bill into law in NY.
The Safe Harbor Act will stop the arrest, prosecution, and incarceration of children involved in prostitution.
Instead of punishing these children for being victims of sexual exploitation, the bill requires the state to create a range of community-based services so that these children can reclaim their young lives.
Please contact Governor Patterson to voice your organization's support for this billat 518-474-8390 or email him at http://www.state.ny.us/governor/contact/index.html and sign the petition.
I'll make it super easy for you.

"Please hear the cry of thousands of child victims of New York's prositution ring. New York is widely acknowledged to be a leading entry, transit and destination point for trafficking victims. Instead of punishing these children for being victims of sexual exploitation, please sign the Safe Harbor Act (A.5258-c/S.3175-c) into law, requiring the state to create a range of community-based services so that these children can reclaim their young lives. Thanks for your great work in our state."
And don't forget about the great work that Rachel Sparks from Apostles in doing. She is mainly working to raise awareness for sexually exploited kids in Thailand right now.
This is a global problem and must be stopped everywhere.
